Suspect An Intolerance?
Symptoms and signs of food intolerances can be many. Some are very subtle and you may not relate the way you feel to something you have eaten, inhaled or touched. Food intolerances can present with symptoms mainly affecting the gastrointestinal system, respiratory system and the skin. Symptoms can occur individually or in combination. They may be localized or they can involve large areas of the body. Common signs and symptoms include:
Digestive system: Stomach pain/cramps, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, constipation, flatulence, indigestion, craving offending foods, bloating, bad breath, taste of metal in the mouth.
Respiratory system: nasal congestion, cough, sneezing, runny nose.
Skin: Red and/or itchy skin, hives, eczema, swelling or bumps on the skin.
Other: Headaches, irritability, nervousness, fatigue, depression, hoarseness, red/itchy/watery eyes, inability to lose weight, poor concentration, hyperactivity.
Reactions to the same substance can vary widely among individuals. Even the same person can have different reactions to a particular substance, depending on factors like how much he or she was exposed to.
At our Christchurch clinic Advanced Naturopathics offers an accurate food intolerance testing service where over 100 of the most common foods and substances are tested. We also offer a Desensitisation Programme.
